Esophageal motor disorders have recently become an important chapter of esophageal functional disease, especially after the introduction of functional investigations such as manometry and pH-monitoring. The use of these tests allowed a better classification of these disorders, even if the results are not always definite, thanks also to the information available from 24 h pressure recordings. In the present paper the authors report their experience of esophageal motility disorders describing the diagnostic tests, medical or surgical treatment. Long term results are also reported.

Abstract

Esophageal motor disorders have recently become an important chapter of esophageal functional disease, especially after the introduction of functional investigations such as manometry and pH-monitoring. The use of these tests allowed a better classification of these disorders, even if the results are not always definite, thanks also to the information available from 24 h pressure recordings. In the present paper the authors report their experience of esophageal motility disorders describing the diagnostic tests, medical or surgical treatment. Long term results are also reported.
