This paper offers a reflection on the history of the Spanish Inquisition in Sicily starting from the work of Fernando Ciaramitaro. Placing his work within the broader historiographical landscape focused on the global dimension of the Holy Office and its activities across the various territories of the Spanish Monarchy, the author has analysed the specific characteristics of the sicilian district in relation to the wider inquisitorial system, suggesting periodisations and research questions useful for deepening the study of the Tribunal of Faith from a political and institutional perspective. In the specific case of the Sicilian tribunal, one of the most significant issues concernes the ability of the inquisitors to reassert their role over the island for much of the long seventeenth-century identified by the autor.

Abstract
This paper offers a reflection on the history of the Spanish Inquisition in Sicily starting from the work of Fernando Ciaramitaro. Placing his work within the broader historiographical landscape focused on the global dimension of the Holy Office and its activities across the various territories of the Spanish Monarchy, the author has analysed the specific characteristics of the sicilian district in relation to the wider inquisitorial system, suggesting periodisations and research questions useful for deepening the study of the Tribunal of Faith from a political and institutional perspective. In the specific case of the Sicilian tribunal, one of the most significant issues concernes the ability of the inquisitors to reassert their role over the island for much of the long seventeenth-century identified by the autor.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
