Mediterranean bunker

La retorica del rifugio, nella concezione di una casa a Serifos, trasforma il limite tra immediatezza e complessità in un reticolo tridimensionale a scacchiera, per incavare l’alloggio su un declivio spesso spazzato dai venti. La matrice rigorosamente geometrica perfora il lotto trapezoidale e, senza disporre una serie di spazi in linea emergenti, ricava scale, stanze, terrazze, patii: ambienti che cercano incessantemente una relazione con il mare, quasi come se l’acqua salata potesse sgorgare dalle fondamenta di questo fragile bunker. Una fragilità che minimizza l’impronta della residenza sull’altare concettuale della salita, così che, a ogni gradino della lunga scala laterale, col soffitto che varia tra il calcestruzzo ruvido e la natura cangiante del cielo, la casa possa essere lentamente scoperta e attraversata. Luci e ombre qui professano una mediterraneità nascosta che rinuncia alle candide superfici di calce, alla ricerca di una brutalità più primitiva.

The rhetoric of the refuge, in the conception of a house on Serifos, transforms the limit between immediacy and complexity into a threedimensional chessboard grid, to hollow out the accommodation on a slope often swept by the winds. The rigorously geometric matrix perforates the trapezoidal plot and, without arranging a series of spaces in an emerging line, creates staircases, rooms, terraces, patios: spaces that incessantly seek a relationship with the sea, almost as if salt water could flow from the foundations of this fragile bunker. A fragility that minimizes the footprint of the residence on the conceptual altar of the ascent, so that at each step of the long side staircase, with the ceiling varying between rough concrete and the changing nature of the sky, the house can be slowly discovered and traversed. Light and shadow here profess a hidden Mediterranean spirit that renounces white lime surfaces in search of a more primitive brutality.
