Abstract

Technological innovation is deeply changing the architecture and functional connotations of the banking sector, both in terms of subjective taxonomies and activities expansion. Starting from this observation, this paper examines the actions taken by European and US regulators to manage the challenges posed by technological innovation in the financial sector (FinTech). The study, starting from an analysis of crypto-assets regulation, aims to verify whether regulatory responses to technological innovation can contribute to maintaining a necessary degree of subjective diversity in the banking sector.
