This article undertakes a literary-linguistic analysis of the tracks of Caparezza’s rap concept-album Le dimensioni del mio caos (2008) which focuses on the construction and deconstruction of myths. This is embodied both in the album’s protagonists and in the larger context of the mythology attributed to the spectacularised and invisible characters of today’s media culture. The analysis includes a historical investigation, pinpointing the contextual targets of the rapper’s critique. This is followed by a study of the rhetorical techniques and wordplays which aim to overthrow the positive historical figures idolised by Caparezza and to create new myths for the modern era. The aim of this research is to deliver a comprehensive interpretation of the song lyrics, by narrating the evolution of the protagonists’ development, and to identify the album itself as a unique and structured work, equal in its storytelling capacity to that of a novel or a fairytale.
