The seven years’ war against Tacfarinas (AD 17-24) had, at three different times, three distinct victors — M. Furius Camillus, L. Apronius, Q. Iunius Blaesus — who were rewarded with ornamenta triumphalia by Tiberius. However, the war was won and ended only by P. Cornelius Dolabella, who received no award for it. An inscription dedicated to Venus Erycina (CIL X, 7257 = ISicily 000537) by L. Apronius’son, L. Apronius Caesianus, allows us to analyse the internal political motivations that led the emperor Tiberius to represent this conflict in an erratic manner and to promote certain senators over others.

Abstract
The seven years’ war against Tacfarinas (AD 17-24) had, at three different times, three distinct victors — M. Furius Camillus, L. Apronius, Q. Iunius Blaesus — who were rewarded with ornamenta triumphalia by Tiberius. However, the war was won and ended only by P. Cornelius Dolabella, who received no award for it. An inscription dedicated to Venus Erycina (CIL X, 7257 = ISicily 000537) by L. Apronius’son, L. Apronius Caesianus, allows us to analyse the internal political motivations that led the emperor Tiberius to represent this conflict in an erratic manner and to promote certain senators over others.File in questo prodotto:
