espite adopting measures like organic materials and eco-labels, progress towards sustainable and conscious fashion needs to be improved by several factors. The lack of change in behavioural patterns and fragmented production systems impede an actual transition (Sahimaa et al., 2023). To overcome these barriers, Buchanan proposes an approach that involves consumers in the fashion experience through co-creation, fostering empathy and under- standing of production processes (Whitty et al., 2021). Furthermore, it emphasises the need for a “content-centered” design that considers the deep meaning of products and their social and ethical implications (Gusev et al., 2001). The fragmentation of the production process, with a lack of communication between different professional figures, hinders the consideration of environmental and social factors in design (Whitty et al., 2021). A change in the approach to fashion design, oriented towards research focused on the user and on solving environmental problems, is fundamental for a more sustainable industry (Whitty et al., 2021).

Abstract

espite adopting measures like organic materials and eco-labels, progress towards sustainable and conscious fashion needs to be improved by several factors.
