Background: Occlusal splints and digital workflow have become increasingly popular in dentistry. Occlusal splints are also relatively easy to fit and can provide immediate relief to patients suffering from these conditions. Occlusal splints are removable mouthpieces that protect the teeth from grinding and clenching. Methods: PubMed, Web of Science and Lilacs were systematically searched until 31/01/2023. In addition, a manual search was performed using the bibliography of selected articles and a Google Scholar search. It was completed, and the papers were read to assess their eligibility. Results: 34 articles were selected. Exclusion criteria were established, while inclusion criteria are articles dealing with the occlusal splint and digital workflow. Therefore, two articles that met the inclusion criteria were selected; the results showed overlapping effects between the two methods. However, the advantages of the digital workflow are undoubtedly superior; Conclusions: Occlusal splints and digital workflow are becoming increasingly popular in dentistry. Occlusal splints are a safe and effective way to protect teeth from grinding and clenching and can be used to treat a variety of occlusal diseases. Digital workflow can create accurate 3D models of the patient's mouth, which can be used to develop custom-fitted occlusal splints.
