The Town Hall of Naples is a prestigious building overlooking the square named after it. Known as Palazzo San Giacomo because of the important church that has been included, it has been the symbol of the city's government for centuries. It occupies an entire block that has been a strategic urban location since the 16th century. Here, in fact, the vice-royal Pedro de Toledo placed many important administrative and religious buildings, and, in 1816, King Ferdinand I of Bourbon built a palace that covered the entire block to house all seven ministries of the Kingdom together. The essay intends to retrace the history of the Palazzo, highlighting how the decision to choose it as the seat of the municipality of Naples recovered and reaffirmed the meanings and values of its identity.
