Baldassarre Peruzzi tra rilievo e progetto dell’antico. Baldassarre Peruzzi Between Survey and Design of Antiquities

The essay highlights the moments of professional collaboration between Baldassarre Peruzzi (1481-1536) and Giovanni da Udine (1487-1561), especially in that short period of time usually summed up with the expression “Leo X Golden Age”, when they shared in Rome the same artistic and cultural environment. The essay then focuses on the material and immaterial tools with which Peruzzi relates to the Antico, focusing the attention on some technical and practical aspects of his professional practice, that can be obtained from the material analysis of the drawings, such as the survey techniques with the compass, the graphic transposition of the survey carried out in the field, or the scale keys, the figures and the units of measurement adopted. Many of the techniques, methods, and conventions, partly still in use today, were born and affirmed at this very moment, thanks to the small circle of actors who collaborated with Raphael in his numerous assignments, including the grandiose project of reconstruction of ancient Rome.
