Abstract

The frequency of essays on new design modes requires us to probe phenomenologies that, in continuity with design, open up different perspectives from a generically cultural point of view and in the field of art. Echo (from Gr. ôikos) is a prefix used for composing words derived from Greek or used in modern terms. Depending on the case, eco can have different meanings: home, family, social organism, collective and dynamic. Hence, the heterogeneity that char acterises ecodesign. The first critical problem of ecodesign is its field of interest, ranging from the dimensional point of view, having to deal with the territory, and from the disciplinary point of view, for the necessary knowledge of and relationship with the environmental characteristics where the artefact will be placed, to the use of materials appropriate to the project. Ecodesign is not confused with environmental design or architectural and urban planning macrostructures. Although predominantly physical-economic interests, ecodesign claims a potential that absorbs those just mentioned. In particular, it is well known that eco-design involves five project actions: recycle, reuse, repair, return, and re-functionalised.
