Abstract

Abstract The essay aims to promote a method for those involved in design, in order to reach the final goal of knowing how to choose, define and regulate the design process starting from its origin, throughout its development and up to its conclu sion. First of all, by defining the differences between the field of interest of design and that of architecture: not being tied to the genius loci, iterability, greater geometric freedom. Subsequently, the essay describes the methods of study, through the three ways: linguistic, iconic and mimetic; fi nally, identifying the natural and artificial categories that characterize the design project, in orderto collect the great est number of product categories in a few categories. In conclusion, the contribution brings out there the main distortions that are being generated around the discipline are highlighted, which intend to accommodate, in the liter ature of design, also the intangible, the ephemeral and the non-reproducible.
