This scientifi c contribution is divided into two parts: the fi rst part illustrates, in broad terms, the evolution of Portuguese spas from the origins to the present day, analyzing the various phases of development and orientation of the demand. The second phase whereas, focuses on the case study of: Monte Real Spa, representative sample of old thermal baths that change in order to respond to the emerging needs of the demand.
