This article is focused on the transformations of work affecting various sectors of production, goods and services, and the challenges of anthropology in understanding the extent of these changes which are being accelerated by the impact of the pandemic. The constellation of new skills, roles and tasks generated by the latest generation of digital technologies is analysed through the contribution of recent theoretical thoughts. The implications of these changes are manifold and depend on the various theoretical approaches taken into consideration. In order to empirically grasp these changes in the workplace, ethnographic research must necessarily acquire new and more specific knowledge in the field of information technology and artificial intelligence, and adapt its methodologies to new contexts that appear quite heterogeneous.
