This paper deals with the contribution of the philologist Christian Gottlob Heyne (1729-1812) in the following fields: 1. the diffusion of classical studies by means of the academic speech ; 2. the interpretation of social and economic facts of the ancient world, in particular slavery ; 3. the academic institutionalisation of the study of antiquity and the development of considerable scientific undertakings, such as the corpora ; 4. the development of ideas about the value and the utility of the study of antiquity as well as the necessity of using a comparative method to understand it ; 5. the science of mythology ; 6. the study of ancient texts. It stresses the decisive influence Heyne had on the following generation of classical scholars.
