Abstract

The focus of the article is the evolution of the Italian terms 'infatti' and 'difatti' from their original function as adverbials to their current use as textual connectives. In the reconstruction of this evolutionary path, specific attention will be devoted to the definition of two peculiar morphological features related to the two connectives: the stabilization of the plural form and the affirmation of univerbated spelling.
