Abstract

Although 10 years have passed since the publication of the book Not for profit. Why Democracy needs Humanities, the present contribution aims to reaffirm the relevance of the book by Marta Nussbaum, professor of Law and Ethics at the University of Chicago, and also refers to the debate that developed in Italy on these issues, well represented by the book L’utilità dell’inutile, by Nuccio Ordine which is a cogent synthesis of the classic texts on the history of thought that denounce the loss of the deeprooted ethical values of the humanities. Against this background, what emerges is the need to plan for innovative human sciences teaching that takes into account the digital revolution, not only in an instrumental sense, but also in a substantial sense, by taking into consideration the more traditional knowledge of the scientific field and exploring the extent to which technology and new means of communication represent a critical contribution in redesigning the teaching of the humanities and new interpersonal relationships between teachers and learners.
