In this paper we investigate how to promote and nurture the main attitudes of a mathematician when solving a mathematical problem. To this aim, we identified and translated some of them as different characters within a narrative framework. In order to promote effective problem-solving strategies we also identified the main phases, ranging from the initial inquiry and discovery to the final proof and disclosure, translating them into different phases of a Digital Interactive Storytelling in Mathematics (DIST-M) where students play and experience a different role/attitude in each episode/phase. The whole DIST-M relies on collaborative scripts and the story evolves according to the interactions between the characters and the stimuli coming from the expert.
