Gérard Bouchard, in his interesting book, Raison et déraison du mythe: Au coeur des imaginaires collectif (Montréal, Boréal, 2015) addresses, among others, two important issues for a scholar of philosophy and political symbolics: what a social myth is and the process of mythification. Even though the author explicitly states that his research is mostly oriented to investigate modern political dynamics, his intuitions and arguments prove to be very pertinent to analyse pre-modern political events as well. Therefore, his categories can be applied to the cultural, political and social climate of the Middle Ages and, more specifically, to the personality of the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II and to the issuing of the augustalis, a gold coin with powerful symbolic value.

Abstract
Gérard Bouchard, in his interesting book, Raison et déraison du mythe: Au coeur des imaginaires collectif (Montréal, Boréal, 2015) addresses, among others, two important issues for a scholar of philosophy and political symbolics: what a social myth is and the process of mythification. Even though the author explicitly states that his research is mostly oriented to investigate modern political dynamics, his intuitions and arguments prove to be very pertinent to analyse pre-modern political events as well. Therefore, his categories can be applied to the cultural, political and social climate of the Middle Ages and, more specifically, to the personality of the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II and to the issuing of the augustalis, a gold coin with powerful symbolic value.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
