A Boussignac CPAP (B-CPAP) system was assessed in 38 patients with chronic respiratory failure undergoing diagnostic bronchoscopy, to manage hypoxaemia induced by endoscopic manouevers, bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) in particular. Patients with chronic hypoxaemia, independently from PCO2 levels, were evaluated on spontaneous breathing after topical anaesthesia. B-CPAP allowed safe and effective bronchoscopic procedures also during biopsy sampling and BAL (14 cases), a well known condition of significant oxygen desaturation. According to our study B-CPAP can be considered as an alternative to oro-tracheal intubation and invasive ventilation.

Abstract
According to our study B-CPAP can be considered as an alternative to oro-tracheal intubation and invasive ventilation.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
