Focusing on Climate Change (CC) issues, this contribution is based on evidence originating from a comparative analysis of numerous case studies, within and outside Europe, addressed at counterbalancing CC through institutional and community-based initiatives. Based on the lessons learnt, light will be shed on the main factors that hinder the effectiveness of current mitigation and adaptation practices as well as on the seeds of innovation arising from them. Then, some suggestions to reframe current approaches to climate issues will be provided.
