The Stewart-Treves syndrome, in its original - which is also its commonest - acceptance is characterised by the appearing of angiosarcomatous tumours on an upper limb that is chronically oedematised as the sequel of a previous surgical operation and/or irradiation for cancer of the breast. Nevertheless, in certain cases the angiosarcomatous tumours may appear on chronic lymphoedema localised elsewhere, principally on the lower limbs, even if there is no antecedent neoplasm. At the present time these cases are included by some authors in the Stewart-Treves syndrome. In one of these cases recently observed in the authors' Institute, they have demonstrated a deficiency of cellular immunity localised exclusively on the affected limb.

Abstract
The Stewart-Treves syndrome, in its original - which is also its commonest - acceptance is characterised by the appearing of angiosarcomatous tumours on an upper limb that is chronically oedematised as the sequel of a previous surgical operation and/or irradiation for cancer of the breast. Nevertheless, in certain cases the angiosarcomatous tumours may appear on chronic lymphoedema localised elsewhere, principally on the lower limbs, even if there is no antecedent neoplasm. At the present time these cases are included by some authors in the Stewart-Treves syndrome. In one of these cases recently observed in the authors' Institute, they have demonstrated a deficiency of cellular immunity localised exclusively on the affected limb.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
