Protein S is a vitamin K-dependent glycoprotein synthetized in the liver. It plays a majior anticoagulative role:it is the cofactor of the activated Protein C and controls coagulation, degrading the thrombin-activated factors V and VIII. The complex protein S/activated protein C also plays a role in controlling fibrinolysis. Protein S has two different forms: the free one(represents 40%) endowed with anticoagulative activity and the bound one, linked to the inhibitor of C4b complement(represents 60%);the latter has no anticoagulative function.

Abstract
Protein S is a vitamin K-dependent glycoprotein synthetized in the liver. It plays a majior anticoagulative role:it is the cofactor of the activated Protein C and controls coagulation, degrading the thrombin-activated factors V and VIII. The complex protein S/activated protein C also plays a role in controlling fibrinolysis. Protein S has two different forms: the free one(represents 40%) endowed with anticoagulative activity and the bound one, linked to the inhibitor of C4b complement(represents 60%);the latter has no anticoagulative function.File in questo prodotto:
