The fatty acids and sterols of Myriophyllum verticillatum are reported. Only 4α-methyl sterols have been detected in free and esterified forms. 4α,24S-Dimethyl-5α-cholesta-7,25(27)-dien-3β-ol and 4α,24S-dimethyl-5α-cholesta-8(14),25(27)-dien-3β-ol have been isolated for the first time. The major fatty acids are 16:1, 16:2, 16:3 and two isomeric hydroxy 16:3. © 1989.
