The authors examined the pattern of compensatory response to chronic uncomplicated hypercapnia in 192 patients. Blood hydrogen ion concentration its linearly related to PCO2(H+= 0.286PCO2= 26.25; r = 0.913); the relation between blood bicarbonate concentration and PCO2is an hyperbolic one (HCO3- = 3.036 PCO2(0.581); r = 0.925). The influence of different levels of hypoxemia on acid-base equilibrium was also studied.

Abstract
The authors examined the pattern of compensatory response to chronic uncomplicated hypercapnia in 192 patients. Blood hydrogen ion concentration its linearly related to PCO2(H+= 0.286PCO2= 26.25; r = 0.913); the relation between blood bicarbonate concentration and PCO2is an hyperbolic one (HCO3- = 3.036 PCO2(0.581); r = 0.925). The influence of different levels of hypoxemia on acid-base equilibrium was also studied.File in questo prodotto:
