The paper examines the book of Roberto Alciati, Monaci, vescovi e scuo- la nella Gallia tardoantica,which wants to show numerous nets of relation that constitute the framework of late-ancient Gaul’s social tissue. Some care is also devoted to the problem of so-called “scholastic legislation”, which was an attempt to influence on methods and contents of teaching and to de- termine them. The fulcrum of the article is devoted to the “masters” of Lérins in their relationship with heathen literature, in which they have formed their culture and that they avoided blaming, on the contrary defending its good use in new christian society.

Abstract

The paper examines the book of Roberto Alciati, Monaci, vescovi e scuo- la nella Gallia tardoantica,which wants to show numerous nets of relation that constitute the framework of late-ancient Gaul’s social tissue.
