Six novel 9,10-dihydrophenanthrene metabolites have been isolated from the aquatic plant Juncus effusus, together with the already known juncusol, juncunol and effusol. The structures of the compounds have been defined on spectroscopic grounds. Two of them showed a good antitumour activity. © 1992.
