The present study demonstrates that a mild dose of ANF is able to induce natriuresis and diuresis in a model of long-term hypothyroid rats. That effect is mediated to a large extent by a sustained increase in GFR, although a tubular action cannot be excluded. Moreover, the large natriuresis and diuresis is not coupled to a decrease in systemic blood pressure. It is important to stress that, in other pathophysiological states (namely, the experimental acute renal failure induced either by norepinephrine or by cisplatin and in the chronic metabolic alkalosis) characterized by a reduced GFR, the principal mechanism underlying the natriuretic effect of ANF seems to be an increase in GFR.

Abstract
The present study demonstrates that a mild dose of ANF is able to induce natriuresis and diuresis in a model of long-term hypothyroid rats. That effect is mediated to a large extent by a sustained increase in GFR, although a tubular action cannot be excluded. Moreover, the large natriuresis and diuresis is not coupled to a decrease in systemic blood pressure. It is important to stress that, in other pathophysiological states (namely, the experimental acute renal failure induced either by norepinephrine or by cisplatin and in the chronic metabolic alkalosis) characterized by a reduced GFR, the principal mechanism underlying the natriuretic effect of ANF seems to be an increase in GFR.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
