The purpose of this work is to point out the peculiar idea of civilization according to Carl Heinrich Becker’s essay: Christentum und Islam, written in 1907. Becker aims at illustrating the identity of Christian and Muhammedan Weltanschauung during the Middle Ages, and at demonstrating that ideas could be transferred from one religious context to the other. Islam and Christianity are rooted in the same groundwork: the Hellenism.
