Wood has increasingly become a focus of global research for its renewable and recyclable nature. Beyond being a traditional building material, it represents a strategic resource for mitigating climate change and supporting sustainable development. In Italy, forests have long been recognized as a valuable source of raw material. Since the early 20th century, wood has played a crucial role in infrastructure, energy, and soil protection, while also helping prevent hydrogeological risks. Over time, strict environmental and landscape protection laws have significantly expanded the national forest area, which now exceeds 12 million hectares. Despite this growth, Italy still imports a large share of its timber. Unlocking the potential of local forests—particularly in Southern Italy—means revitalizing the entire wood value chain, from sustainable forest management to the production of high-quality, locally sourced structural timber. Encouraging the use of domestic wood in construction not only enhances local economies but also supports environmental resilience and the circular economy.

Abstract
Encouraging the use of domestic wood in construction not only enhances local economies but also supports environmental resilience and the circular economy.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
