This contribution analyzes the concept of invidia within the orations De Lege Agraria. The term is invoked to characterize the lands unlawfully occupied by Sullan possessors. Alongside a reconstruction of the legislation governing these holdings, the study traces the development of Cicero’s argumentation, which evolved over time. Cicero’s stance regarding Sullan possessions remained inherently ambivalent, shifting according to the specific objectives he sought to achieve and the interests he aimed to protect in each instance.
