Abstract

Little explored by historiography, school construction in the 1950s is animated by Montessori pedagogy and the innovative examples of Scharoun and Perkins & Will. In 1949, the turning point is provided by the Ministry's competition won by Cicconcelli, as reported by Cassi Ramelli in the dedicated issue of «Vitrum» in 1960, including the Neutra project in Los Angeles and some schools in Milan. In Naples, schools in working-class neighbourhoods, including those built by Cocchia, Della Sala and Angrisani, and the Montessori school in the NATO base are worth mentioning.
