The complex structure of cardiac tissue requires refined techniques when it comes to regenerative medicine. In recent years, smart biomaterials have been implied to this field or their stimuli-responsive properties, particularly in regard to cell transplantation and as drug delivery systems. The principal applications of smart biomaterials in cardiac tissue regeneration are intramyocardial injection and epicardial patches, with the aim of activating and supporting resident myocardial progenitor cells and supplying regenerative components to damaged tissues. Advantages can be found in the possibility of a highly targeted therapy, which adapts to the patient physiology implementing the therapeutic effect.

Abstract
The complex structure of cardiac tissue requires refined techniques when it comes to regenerative medicine. In recent years, smart biomaterials have been implied to this field or their stimuli-responsive properties, particularly in regard to cell transplantation and as drug delivery systems. The principal applications of smart biomaterials in cardiac tissue regeneration are intramyocardial injection and epicardial patches, with the aim of activating and supporting resident myocardial progenitor cells and supplying regenerative components to damaged tissues. Advantages can be found in the possibility of a highly targeted therapy, which adapts to the patient physiology implementing the therapeutic effect.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
