For decades climate change has been a central topic of studies and re- search but has never had as much influence in terms of public policies, youth mobilization and mass movements as nowadays. In this regard, the following literature review takes on the theme of climate change related to mass migra- tion and refugee issues and how it substantially affects national and interna- tional security. The research focuses on two different perspectives taken from a social constructivism theory: the Copenhagen School and the Paris School. These diverging approaches will be developed in their respective highlights and compared in order to understand the security and securitization threats as consequence of climate change.

Abstract

For decades climate change has been a central topic of studies and re- search but has never had as much influence in terms of public policies, youth mobilization and mass movements as nowadays. In this regard, the following literature review takes on the theme of climate change related to mass migra- tion and refugee issues and how it substantially affects national and interna- tional security. The research focuses on two different perspectives taken from a social constructivism theory: the Copenhagen School and the Paris School. These diverging approaches will be developed in their respective highlights and compared in order to understand the security and securitization threats as consequence of climate change.
