The contribution is part of the 'Cleopatra Project, acronym for CoLlaborative ExploratiOn of cyber-PhysicAl culTuRal lAndscapes, supports the construction of new generation cyber-physical systems, consisting of human users, intelligent software agents and physical devices cooperating within one hybrid – physical, augmented and virtual – expanded cultural environment. We aimed at taking advantage of a new type of social dimension, to leverage on the visitors’ interest and augment the cultural experience.This case study focuses on the “Risorgimento”, the 19th century movement of the Italian Unification period that culminated with the establishment of the Kingdom of Italy, in 1861. Many were the events that took place in the Caserta district (at the time of Terra di Lavoro), such as the historic meeting between Giuseppe Garibaldi and Vittorio Emanuele II, as the Unification of Italy was ratified. Moreover, several testaments to these events exist in this area: memorial monuments to the fallen; paintings representing Garibaldi’s endeavours and/or Garibaldi’s volunteer heroes during their patriotic sacrifice; buildings that preserve the events historical memory.
