Ongoing research in Capua on the Volturno outlines the features of the early medieval core (mid-9th century), consisting of a few small urban churches and the seats of power, namely the episcope and the co-called princes’ palace, whose location is somewhat problematic. The study of the urban core considers also the territory’s perspective. From the Ostrogothic age onwards, the ancient urban centres register an overall tightness, albeit in the light of complex transformations. For the later phases, the trajectories of the ancient centres become more complex: they range from the contraction of the late-antique urban space to its modulation to its displacement to surrounding areas.

Abstract
Ongoing research in Capua on the Volturno outlines the features of the early medieval core (mid-9th century), consisting of a few small urban churches and the seats of power, namely the episcope and the co-called princes’ palace, whose location is somewhat problematic. The study of the urban core considers also the territory’s perspective. From the Ostrogothic age onwards, the ancient urban centres register an overall tightness, albeit in the light of complex transformations. For the later phases, the trajectories of the ancient centres become more complex: they range from the contraction of the late-antique urban space to its modulation to its displacement to surrounding areas.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
