Research in the Capuan church of Saints Rufo and Carponio revealed the complex construction palimpsest of the monument, most proba bly erected during the second half of the 10th century and subsequently transformed between the Norman age, when the building became part of the possessions of Montecassino and then of Sant’Angelo in Formis, and the modern age, as part of the numerous interventions carried out by the archepiscopal Curia in the numerous Capuan worship buildings. By examining the published written sources and the structural components that can still be perceived, it is possible to propose an overall synthesis of the issues offered by this tiny church. The aim is to increase knowledge of a monument not well known in specialist literature, with a view to an organic and effective reading of it.
