The urban-rural pairing can be used to frame the topic of vernacular architecture, so that as the re- lationship between the urban and the rural changes over time, the concept of vernacular architecture changes as well. e paper thus analyses some stages of this pairing’s evolution, and how the concept of “vernacular” has changed over the years.
