This paper focuses on forms and functions of the paratexts in Piero Vettori’s Commentarii in tres libros Aristotelis de arte dicendi. In this com-mented edition of Aristotle’ Rhetoric, the Florentine humanist shows a sophisti-cated use of paratexts as tools both to communicate to the readers his intention and philological method and to provide a successful and adequate reception of his work. The comparison with other contemporary Aristotelian commentaries – namely the Commentaria on Rhetoric by Daniele Barbaro and the Explicatio-nes of Poetics by Francesco Robortello – helps to appreciate the relevance and originality of Vettori’s choices.

Abstract
This paper focuses on forms and functions of the paratexts in Piero Vettori’s Commentarii in tres libros Aristotelis de arte dicendi. In this com-mented edition of Aristotle’ Rhetoric, the Florentine humanist shows a sophisti-cated use of paratexts as tools both to communicate to the readers his intention and philological method and to provide a successful and adequate reception of his work. The comparison with other contemporary Aristotelian commentaries – namely the Commentaria on Rhetoric by Daniele Barbaro and the Explicatio-nes of Poetics by Francesco Robortello – helps to appreciate the relevance and originality of Vettori’s choices.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
