This paper focuses on forms and functions of the paratexts in Piero Vettori’s Commentarii in tres libros Aristotelis de arte dicendi. In this com-mented edition of Aristotle’ Rhetoric, the Florentine humanist shows a sophisti-cated use of paratexts as tools both to communicate to the readers his intention and philological method and to provide a successful and adequate reception of his work. The comparison with other contemporary Aristotelian commentaries – namely the Commentaria on Rhetoric by Daniele Barbaro and the Explicatio-nes of Poetics by Francesco Robortello – helps to appreciate the relevance and originality of Vettori’s choices.
