The paper focuses on the Armoury in Capua, an extraordinary work, between mili-tary engineering and architecture, built by Gennaro Loiacono during the Bourbon 19th century inside the church of 18th century of an ancient Benedictine monastery. After the storytelling of its history from Lombard origins in 10th century to the building of the new church in the 18th century, the paper deepens its transformation into an armoury after 1830 to highlight the high compositional value of the work and the greatness of its designer.
Il mio contributo appunta l’attenzione sulla sala d’armi di Capua, una straordinaria opera di ingegneria militare progettata nell’Ottocento borbonico dal colonnello Gennaro Loiacono all’interno della chiesa settecentesca di un antico monastero benedettino. Dopo aver tracciato sinteticamente la sua storia dalle origini longobarde nel X secolo alla costruzione della nuova chiesa nel Settecento, il saggio si sofferma sulla sua trasformazione in sala d’armi dopo il 1830 per far emergere l’alto valore compositivo dell’opera e la grandezza del suo progettista.
