This work aims to show how a careful study of the existing urban district, identifying the invariant elements of the city, provides an significant support for a correct design of urban areas. This research is based on collecting data about the urban fabric with the typological-procedural approach introduced by Muratori. Therefore an urban infill intervention has been designed, combining tradition and innovation in an organic way and not perturbing the character of the city. The new building, fitting into the overall structure, should be a key element for strengthening the city's identity and culture of democracy. This experiment was carried out on the block of the SS. Annunziata in Marcianise, where the demolition of the historic building “palazzo Blasi” created an urban void and distorted the structure of the built fabric.
