The Verses De annis a principio saeculorum by Paul the Deacon: for “Adelperga pia”. The paper provides an account of the leading part played in beneventan History by Adelperga, daughter of King Desiderius and wife of Duke Arechi II of Benevento. The direct investigation of many sources (Annales Regni Francorum, Codex Carolinus, Paolus Diaconus, Erchempert, Chronicon Salernitanum) shows the importance given by contemporaries to Adelperga’s and Arechi’s cultural policy. The paper is enriched with an appendix of documents and unpublished texts.
