The study of early medieval glazed pottery and its diffusion in Italy gained significant impetus in the 1960s. Research during this period helped clarify aspects of chronology, morphology and technology, the spread and consumption of heavy-glazed pottery or Forum Ware in numerous contexts within the Italian peninsula, although the highly fragmented nature of its production, which was decentralized in many different centers, means that there is still a need for the development of regional and sub-regional monographic studies. The excavations currently being carried out at Monte Santa Croce have yielded two fragments of glazed pottery that bear significant similarities with the production of heavy-glazed pottery in Campania and Lazio: despite several interpretative problems, the find, which is consistent with the early medieval occupation of the site, may help to shed light on the problems of production and circulation of Forum Ware in Campania.

Abstract
The study of early medieval glazed pottery and its diffusion in Italy gained significant impetus in the 1960s. Research during this period helped clarify aspects of chronology, morphology and technology, the spread and consumption of heavy-glazed pottery or Forum Ware in numerous contexts within the Italian peninsula, although the highly fragmented nature of its production, which was decentralized in many different centers, means that there is still a need for the development of regional and sub-regional monographic studies. The excavations currently being carried out at Monte Santa Croce have yielded two fragments of glazed pottery that bear significant similarities with the production of heavy-glazed pottery in Campania and Lazio: despite several interpretative problems, the find, which is consistent with the early medieval occupation of the site, may help to shed light on the problems of production and circulation of Forum Ware in Campania.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
