Even in classical antiquity, religion was a source of tensions, but to a perhaps lesser extent and in a certainly different way than in the current era. Polytheistic religions were mainly formed based on ethnicity and, as a primary consequence, did not foresee the possibility of apostasy. Nevertheless, phenomena of intolerance were also present both in ancient Greece and in Rome. This contribution aims to investigate the characteristics and types of these phenomena.
