As tourism has become pervasive in a variety of communicative situations, so the communication activity via Web sites has expanded access to the genre of tourism press releases beyond the circles of professional journalists. In this paper, I interrogate the generic structure used to realise the moves with communicative purpose(s) of texts from a randomised corpus of press releases published on the ABTA website, and look into situated uses of linguistic resources that construct purpose(s) in the empirical data. Findings reveal that a combination of informative and promotional communicative purposes have a great impact on linguistic and discoursal features of the genre, with news press releases aiming to create an awareness for the organisation/brand tied to its tourism and travel-related products and services alongside marketing (advertising and sponsorship) communication strategies and online public relations.

Abstract
As tourism has become pervasive in a variety of communicative situations, so the communication activity via Web sites has expanded access to the genre of tourism press releases beyond the circles of professional journalists. In this paper, I interrogate the generic structure used to realise the moves with communicative purpose(s) of texts from a randomised corpus of press releases published on the ABTA website, and look into situated uses of linguistic resources that construct purpose(s) in the empirical data. Findings reveal that a combination of informative and promotional communicative purposes have a great impact on linguistic and discoursal features of the genre, with news press releases aiming to create an awareness for the organisation/brand tied to its tourism and travel-related products and services alongside marketing (advertising and sponsorship) communication strategies and online public relations.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
