Donne e potere: la monarchia femminile nel XVIII secolo

The essay retraces the development of the gender historiography in Italy and the birth of the interest for the relationship between women and power in the Early modern age, that had been ignored for a long time by the traditional historical studies. Instead the most recent European researches have underlined a strong female starring role, especially in the courts between the late 17th and during the 18th century. Queens sub iuris, queens consorts or regents developed remarkable assignments turned to the affirmation of the absolutism and the monarchic institution in Europe until the thresholds of the French revolution.

Nel saggio si percorre lo sviluppo in Italia della storiografia di genere e della nascita dell’interesse per il rapporto donne e potere nell’età moderna, che era stato lungamente ignorato negli studi storici tradizionali. Le più recenti ricerche europee hanno invece evidenziato un forte protagonismo femminile, soprattutto nelle corti tra tardo seicento e nel corso del Settecento. Regine sub iuris, regine consorti o reggenti svolsero rilevanti compiti volti all’affermazione dell’assolutismo e dell’istituto monarchico in Europa fino alle soglie della rivoluzione francese.
