Construction materials are starting to represent a very interesting new design approach to recycle industrial and urban waste from the environmental protection viewpoint. Following several recent studies about the possibility of substitute sand with waste glass, this paper presents the results of experimental tests carried out using glass cullet, as it comes from a local recycling company, at different replacement levels. Obtained results show that using waste glass as a replacement for river sand allows to obtain a good quality cement mortar, also when replacement rate is 100%. Further, it has been found that glass mortars are slightly lighter than traditional sand mortars and have in any case a mechanical performance above the minimum required by law.

Abstract
Construction materials are starting to represent a very interesting new design approach to recycle industrial and urban waste from the environmental protection viewpoint. Following several recent studies about the possibility of substitute sand with waste glass, this paper presents the results of experimental tests carried out using glass cullet, as it comes from a local recycling company, at different replacement levels. Obtained results show that using waste glass as a replacement for river sand allows to obtain a good quality cement mortar, also when replacement rate is 100%. Further, it has been found that glass mortars are slightly lighter than traditional sand mortars and have in any case a mechanical performance above the minimum required by law.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
