Coffee is a beverage with large range of caffeine concentrations, which depend upon the methodology of beverage preparation and type of coffee. The annual amount of coffee consumed per person is about 4 kg in USA and about 3 kg in United Kingdom. In recent years a number of studies have suggested potential health benefits associated with consumption of coffee, which influences many biological systems. For example, people who drink coffee on a regular basis have lower risks of developing type 2 diabetes, colon cancer, liver cirrhosis and gallstones. Since the benefits of coffee on health seem to exceed the negative effects, the coffee can be included among the functional foods.

Abstract
Coffee is a beverage with large range of caffeine concentrations, which depend upon the methodology of beverage preparation and type of coffee. The annual amount of coffee consumed per person is about 4 kg in USA and about 3 kg in United Kingdom. In recent years a number of studies have suggested potential health benefits associated with consumption of coffee, which influences many biological systems. For example, people who drink coffee on a regular basis have lower risks of developing type 2 diabetes, colon cancer, liver cirrhosis and gallstones. Since the benefits of coffee on health seem to exceed the negative effects, the coffee can be included among the functional foods.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
