Abstract

The development policy of new planned commercial settlements (Artificial Shopping Centers) born as a terminal system of large-scale distribution (GDO) since the ‘80s led to a progressive decline of businesses network originally established in the traditional historic city centre. We need to re-think the theme of "sharing retail" as an opportunity and inspiration to redesign the city restoring the identity of historic places, giving to creative economy the task of promoting local business growth and development of a new regional scenario. In this view the mall becomes the natural tool to control the tertiary sector of urban commercial sector. TCM experiences (Town Centre Management) developed in Europe in last century decade, promote research and apply new strategies for management of urban and commercial center of town promoting a better interaction between individuals, the associations and local governments. The aim of current research on “Natural Shopping Center of excellence” such as the Resina- Market, is the definition of innovative concepts for spaces "retail" able to promote activities involving interaction between creativity and talent through a clever use of design, pointing on a new view of city-industry. The design theme of urban commercial requalification of a fragment of the historic center of the town of Ercolano with a strong historical tradition in the “vintage market”, represents an opportunity to research and experience aimed to consider the city as a laboratory-industry and as "knowledge factory" (where the new range of conceptual models) promote integration between systems exhibitors commodity product "excellence 2nd hand”, and technological subsystems are able to contribute to the renovation of the commercial segment.
