In the Congrega della Redenzione sotto il titolo della Morte, a monumental ambient located into the Santa Maria Capua Vetere Cathedral, some important works of art show the historical, economic and religious role of the Congrega in Santa Maria Capua Vetere’s life. Carla Venditti offers a resumé of the history of the Congrega and Riccardo Lattuada proposes an attribution to Nicolò Tagliacozzi Canale for the sculpted main altar, rich of colored marble intarsia, and in fact one of the most sophisticated examples of decorative art in the Kingdom of Naples in the second half of the XVIIIth Century. Lattuada discusses also the importance of Francesco de Mura’s powerful altarpiece depicting the “Pietà with the Virgin, Saint Magdalen, Mary of Cleofa and Saint John the Evangelist”, signed and dated 1757.

Abstract
Lattuada discusses also the importance of Francesco de Mura’s powerful altarpiece depicting the “Pietà with the Virgin, Saint Magdalen, Mary of Cleofa and Saint John the Evangelist”, signed and dated 1757.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
